The banking sector is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the Belarusian economy. Assets and capital of domestic banks are increasing at a rate significantly higher than the growth rates of gross domestic product and investment in fixed assets.
Over the past few years, interest in the Belarusian banking system among foreign investors has been growing. Capital of Germany, Russia, Austria, Ukraine, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Ireland, the USA, the Czech Republic and other countries participate in the authorized funds of Belarusian banks.
The banking sector of the Republic of Belarus has good prospects for development both in terms of increasing the resource potential and developing new banking products. According to international experts, the banking market of Belarus is one of the most promising in the CIS and Eastern Europe. Considering the forthcoming privatization of state-owned banks, one can expect an increase in the inflow of foreign direct investment into the banking system of Belarus, which will increase the competitiveness and capitalization of Belarusian banks. According to the estimates of experts of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the country has the conditions for attracting foreign capital to the statutory funds of banks, including through the creation of new banks.
