Solar plant with a capacity of 2.5 MW was launched in Shchuchyn district, BelTA informs with reference to Sergey Lozhechnik, chairman of the Shchuchyn district executive committee.

The new solar power plant is located on the territory of the former military airfield near Shchuchin. The plant was built by JSC Logan-Energo, the volume of investments amounted to about 50 billion non-denominated rubles.

“This is not the first solar station in our district. A 1.6 MW power plant in Rozhanka village has been successfully operating. In our climatic zone there are enough sunny days in order to make such plants operate effectively,” said Lozhechnik.

He stressed that today investors are interested in the further development of alternative energy in Shchuchyn district. Two more land plots were allocated for the construction of new solar power plants. “It is important that these objects do not occupy farmland,  inarable land  is given for these purposes, as well as moorland, or, as in this very case, the territory of the former military airfield is being used."

According to Sergey Lozhechnik, alternative energy is being developed in other fields. The Swiss company that implements the project for the construction of a pig farm in Shchuchyn district, all the roofs  of the future buildings will be covered with solar panels.
