National agency of investment and privatization has taken part in the seminar “Doing Business in Belarus” which took place in Warsaw on February 26, 2014. The event was organized by consulting companies Peterka & Partners, Poland Consulting, Belarus Consulting and supported by the Embassy of Belarus in Poland.
During the seminar National agency of investment and privatization made a presentation on the investment potential and benefits for investors in Belarus. There was also given a brief overview of the dynamics of Polish-Belarusian investment cooperation, current status and planned activities regarding the pilot privatization project which the Agency is running under the supervision of the World Bank.
The participants of the event discussed practical aspects of using the benefits of the Customs Union, polish tax aspects of doing business in Belarus including specific issues related to the creation of a permanent establishment. Special attention was given to practical case studies, e.g. how to approach typical problems with contracts, prepayments and currency regulations.
In the legal part discussion focused on customs duties, Belarusian labor regulations, property registering and work permits as well as court procedures in Belarus. An informal B2B session finalized this event.
The seminar was joined by more than 50 representatives of Polish and Belarusian business and it was followed by a positive feed back from them. A number of topics, and in particular the privatization process in Belarus, have aroused a significant interest. It is expected that similar seminars will be held more often in the future and the possibility of organization of such an event in Minsk is under consideration.
