During the official visit of the President of Belarus in the State of Qatar, from the Belarusian side a number of proposals were voiced to deepen investment cooperation.
“During the negotiations the main topic was an investment cooperation. The Belarusian side has made a number of proposals to the management of Qatar. In the near future, these proposals will be studied. The Qatari delegation plans to visit Belarus in a month to discuss the opportunity to deepen our investment cooperation”, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei. He stressed that he had meant the implementation of mutually beneficial projects.
The parties also discussed prospects for deepening industrial cooperation. “There are real prospects of creating joint ventures in Belarus with the participation of the Qatari equity; export of the products that are in demand in Qatar”, said Vladimir Makei. According to his words, the leaders of the countries also exchanged their views on the situation in the region based on the fact that both countries were aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
“The exchange of views on the development of the international situation was very important and useful .We have no differences in opinions about what is happening in international relations and the world politics, ” said the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
“The visit was very important. It really led to reaching the agreements on a number of important issues. Taking into account that we, Qatar and some other Gulf countries are members of the Nonaligned Movement, we need to use this factor for further development of trade and investment, and political cooperation, cooperation in several other sectors and areas of mutual interest ”, said Vladimir Makei.
Belarus and Qatar signed a package of documents on cooperation in various spheres of economy and social life. In the presence of the leaders of the two countries, the memorandum of understanding on health cooperation was signed between the ministries of Belarus and Qatar.
A memorandum on cooperation in the field of academic and scientific cooperation between the Belarusian State Medical University and the University of Qatar was also signed. The Ministries of Finance signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in financial matters. A memorandum of understanding between the development banks of Belarus and Qatar was signed as well.
With the signing of the memorandum, it becomes possible to attract credit resources on exceptionally favorable terms for those projects that are financed by the Development Bank of Belarus. In general, these documents stipulate a specific mechanism, which makes it possible to go further on direct negotiations and implement projects in the designated areas.
“It is a practice that has been adopted in Qatar — before moving on to practical measures of cooperation, agreements at the intergovernmental level should be reached. The word "memorandum" does not imply any vagueness. It is kind of form that is accepted here,” Ambassador of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar Roman Golovchenko said to the journalists.
