Belarus and the USA may soon sign an agreement on the mutual protection and encouragement of investments in addition to a number of other important agreements that will create the legal framework for the more effective development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries said Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich during the first Belarusian-American investment forum in New York on 22 September.

In particular, the Prime Minister noted that Belarus and the USA had an incomplete legal base with regard to trade and economic cooperation. “In the near future we intend to sign at least three agreements on the mutual protection and encouragement of investments, on avoiding double taxation, and on providing legal aid,” said the Prime Minister.

“The Belarusian side has drafted these documents. The relevant officials and agencies in the U.S. government have been notified. We would like to clarify individual positions together with our American partners in the near future to be able to sign basic documents on visas and with regard to the agreements that are going to create the foundation for investment, trade, and economic cooperation,” noted Mikhail Myasnikovich.
