VII Latvian-Belarusian business forum was held in Riga on September 16. The aim of the forum was to promote economic cooperation and establishment of business contacts between businesspeople of the two countries.

The representative delegation of Belarus visited the forum. The Belarusian delegation was composed of representatives of 72 government agencies, business organizations and enterprises of such industries as transport and logistics, ICT, trade and finance. The Latvian side expressed great interest in the forum — their participation was confirmed by more than 200 entrepreneurs representing leading sectors of the Latvian business.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of Latvia, Juris Stink and Deputy Economy Minister of Belarus Yuri Chebotar took part in the event. In addition, director of the National Agency of Investment and Privatization spoke at the forum with a presentation of the investment climate of the Republic of Belarus.

The models of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, ICT, trade and finance were debated during the sessions of the forum. Industry representatives discussed practical instruments and cooperation opportunities, market trends, and exchange of experience.

The main groups of products that Latvia exports to Belarus are cars, machinery, electrical equipment, optical equipment, chemical products, food products and textiles. From Belarus to Latvia mineral products and wood products are mainly imported. In 2015, Belarus was the 16th largest export partner of Latvia and the 11th largest import partner.

In terms of investments in fixed assets of registered in Latvia companies, among other countries Belarus occupied the 22th place with a total investment of 21.6 million euros in September 2016. 2 186 companies with Belarusian capital work in Latvia.
