The methods used to calculate labor and employment statistics will be improved as from 1 January 2017, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus Inna Medvedeva on 22 August.
“The approaches will be absolutely radically changed,” said the head of the Belarusian state statistics agency.

“A great deal of work is ahead of us. We will have to change the indicators that we use now. The relevant action plan has been worked out. The new approaches will be assimilated into statistics practices as from 1 January 2017,” noted Inna Medvedeva. “The indicators will have different names and will be interpreted differently.”
For instance, volunteers used to be outside the scope of the state statistics agency and were not recorded as part of the workforce. “Now we will ask whether people do volunteer work,” explained the official.
The statistics indicators used to describe the state of the labor market will be changed most essentially. The work is already in progress.
