Czechia is considering investing in the expansion of peat extraction areas in Pinsk District, Brest Oblast, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

A number of agreements on new cooperation projects were reached with the Czech company Raselina in late November. The Belarusian fuel and natural gas industrial group Beltopgaz, Raselina, and the Belarusian peat extraction company Torfopredpriyatiye Glinka have already implemented a joint project in Belarus to build a peat processing facility to make peat substrates. Now the Czech company is considering investing in the construction of new areas for Torfopredpriyatiye Glinka to extract peat in Pinsk District, Brest Oblast. The plans envisage investments as large as €1.3 million. The money will be used to expand the peat extraction area by about 150ha.

Speaking about other avenues of cooperation with Raselina, the Energy Ministry representatives noted arrangements had been made to increase the delivery of baled peat and soils to Czechia in 2017 up to 80,000m3. The products to the tune of about €520,000 will be delivered by Torfopredpriyatiye Glinka.

According to the source, Belarus-Czechia cooperation in power engineering was discussed in Prague in late November during the 14th session of the Czech-Belarusian working group on cooperation in power engineering. The group is part of the Czech-Belarusian commission on economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Beltopgaz Director General, chairman of the Belarusian part of the working group Leonid Rudinsky.

While in Czechia members of the delegation held working meetings and visited a number of Czech companies. Those included Thermona (production of gas and electric boilers for heating systems, including multistage boiler houses), Mavel, Metrostav (hydropower plant construction), and Ekol (production and maintenance of steam and condensation turbines with the output capacity of up to 70MW).

Apart from that, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in gasification and power engineering was signed by Beltopgaz and the Czech-Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 25 November 2016 with assistance of the Embassy of Belarus in Czechia. A memorandum of understanding on cooperation was signed by the Czech-Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo. The 15th session of the Czech-Belarusian working group on cooperation in power engineering is scheduled to take place in Minsk in April-May 2017.
