The agreement on Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Treaty of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) came into force on 12 August.

Kyrgyzstan has become a full-fledged member of the union alongside with Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Russia.
“Kyrgyzstan's entry to the EEU is a result of a big joint effort on integration. In 2014 the roadmaps for Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Eurasian integration project were implemented, which promoted the adaptation of the country's economy to the EEU legislation and practices. In particular, there has been addressed a whole package of issues related to the modernization of customs infrastructure facilities,” the EEC said.

The agreement on Kyrgyzstan's accession to the EEU was signed at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 23 December 2014. On 8 May 2015 the EEU member states signed two protocols that determined the terms for Kyrgyzstan's entry. The EEU member states performed all interstate procedures necessary for the agreement to become effective.

“The accession to the EEU opens new prospects for Kyrgyzstan. Barriers to the movement of goods, services, capital and workforce are lifted. New investment opportunities are provided as well as prospects for the implementation of big infrastructure projects, first of all in the energy, transport and agriculture areas. Kyrgyzstan citizens get the right to be employed in any member state of the union on the same terms as the citizens of the state of employment. Kyrgyzstan's accession adds new impetus to the development of the EEU potential. The integration association strengthens its positions in the global economic architecture,” the EEC stressed.
