Plans have been made to provide more preferences to companies residing in free economic zones (FEZ) in Belarus, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Tax and Duties Minister Ella Selitskaya, who commented on the main tax policy novelties, which are supposed to be introduced in 2017.

“If we talk about incentives, then additional preferences will be granted to residents of free economic zones,” said the Belarusian Deputy Tax and Duties Minister. She stated that a number of effective preferences will be scrapped.
The tax legislation will be amended to improve tax administration. In particular, the base for taxing digital services provided by non-residents will be expanded. The norm is supposed to come into force on 1 January 2018. The remaining time will be sufficient for preparing conditions and instruments to service non-residents, to collect taxes, and exercise control, explained Ella Selitskaya.
According to the source, the size of taxes set in Belarusian rubles will be traditionally indexed on 1 January 2017. “If we talk about small and medium enterprises, I should first of all mention indexation of the criteria, which are used as part of the simplified taxation system. They will be indexed using the consumer price index forecast,” said the Deputy Tax and Duties Minister.
In her words, in 2017 the tax burden will be reduced in comparison with 2016. “We expect this year's tax burden to reach 24.6%. Next year's tax burden is expected to go down to 23.5%,” noted Ella Selitskaya.
