The USA needs to think about ways to improve relations with Belarus

The USA needs to think about ways to improve relations with Belarus. The statement was made by Dana Rohrabacher, member of the United States House of Representatives, Deputy Chairman of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, during the visit to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 3 August.

The U.S. congressman said: “It is necessary to start rebooting anew. The U.S. president mentioned it recently with regard to Russia. The United States needs to look at the situation from the outside and think about ways to improve relations, including relations with Belarus. In the USA efforts are exercised to convince us that Belarus and Russia are hostile nations. When I get back home, I will talk about the falsehood of the statement and I will mention that people here are good and wish no ill towards us.”

The U.S. congressman was particularly interested in matters concerning power engineering, including nuclear energy. He said he was promoting the idea of phasing out outdated sources of energy. The U.S. congressman demonstrated interest in the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project and took a close look at the nuclear power plant's model available in the museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Dana Rohrabacher is expected to hold negotiations with Belarusian scientists led by Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

It is the third visit of USA representatives to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in the last few years. In 2014 Minsk welcomed a delegation of national academies of the USA. A delegation of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences visited Minsk in April 2015.
