The business forum in Vitebsk opens for Slovakian business the eastern part of Belarus and is an important part of the preparation for the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic affairs which will take place in Minsk in September, Slovakia Ambassador to Belarus, Miroslav Mojzita said during the plenary meeting of the business forum.

According to the Ambassador, now Belarus and Slovakia are developing the relations in many areas. The heads of a number of Slovakian towns have come to Vitebsk, which indicates the desire to promote regional interaction. “Parliamentary cooperation is also gaining momentum. Without it, it is impossible to develop serious interstate relations,” Ambassador Miroslav Mojzita stressed. Among the Slovak businessmen who are participating in the forum in Vitebsk there are those who are looking for partners and also those who have been doing business in Belarus for a long time. “But they mainly work around Minsk and in the western regions. Thus the Vitebsk forum opens the eastern part of your beautiful country for Slovakian business,” the diplomat noted. This has been made possible in many ways thanks to the Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic in the Republic of Belarus which opened in Vitebsk in 2014 and the activity of its head Alexei Sychev.

Miroslav Mojzita sees the business forum in Vitebsk as an important part of the preparation for the meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic affairs. “In the course of the forum we can generate good ideas for promoting cooperation which can be later discussed at a higher level,” said the Ambassador. The Belarusian and Slovak economies have at least one thing in common: they are export oriented, which makes them dependent on external conditions.

More than 50 Slovak companies are attending the business forum running in Vitebsk on 8-10 July. The agenda includes a plenary meeting and the panel discussions “Innovative development and investment projects of Vitebsk Oblast”, “Light industry. Ideas and technologies”, “Innovative projects of the universities of Vitebsk Oblast”, a business matchmaking session and visits to the local enterprises. In addition, representatives of the travel industries will arrange the Belarusian-Slovak tourist fair to present their services not only to the participants of the business forum but also to all residents and guests of Vitebsk as the city will be hosting the International Festival of Arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk.

This is the first time that Vitebsk hosts such event. It was initiated by the Vitebsk-based Honorary Consulate of Slovakia in Belarus. The event has been organized by the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and the Vitebsk Regional Marketing Center.
