In the near future the World Bank's funding portfolio available to Belarus will be increased to exceed the figure that existed two years ago. The statement was made by Young Chul Kim, World Bank Country Manager for Belarus, during the meeting with members of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament on 29 October.

Young Chul Kim reminded that Belarus and the World Bank have cooperated for 20 years already but the amount of funding available to Belarus has been limited for a long time in comparison with other countries. “Efforts have been exercised in the last few years to increase the volume. When I was put in charge of the World Bank's representative office, the portfolio for Belarus stood at $375 million. Now the figure is $988 million. Very soon the portfolio will exceed the figure that existed two years ago by three times,” said the head of the World Bank representative office in Belarus.

Young Chul Kim remarked that the Belarus parliament had taken an active part in developing the strategy for the World Bank's cooperation with Belarus. The executive also said he believes that Belarusian MPs should meet with the World Bank representative more frequently.

He also stressed that Belarus is now in the middle of the way in implementing the previously outlined strategy of cooperation with the World Bank.
